English grand lodge deny any history before 1717. This is a nonsense and even the most stubborn english masons can't deny thast the oldest lodge statutes are scottish and date from the late 1400s. The oldest lodge in kilwinning is in Kilwinning, Scotland and has earned the right to be called the Mother Lodge or Lodge No. 0.

A nice question for any sceptics out there: the year 1717 stands as the earliest year for english freemasonry and so they believe there was no freemasons before that day. So.....who initiated the first freemason? Himself?

The world practices Scottish Rite Freemasonry and ignores English Rite. The history has more depth and plunges the very darkness of history.

A small correction:

"The oldest lodge in kilwinning is in Kilwinning....."

Should read:

"The oldest lodge in the world is in Kilwinning......"
