Date Posted: 13:08:00 07/08/04 Thu Scuttlebutt Shirley Pizarro A continuous shower of blessings for glorious Maricel Soriano Even when everybody else expected the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano to win the best actress plum in the recently-held Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) awards night, the beautiful actress simply didn’t. That’s why when she was finally proclaimed as Best Actress that night for her magnificent performance in "Filipinas" (her second trophy, the first being in the Metro Manila Film Festival last December), it was so well received by everybody. Everybody just cheered Maricel on and shared with her the joy of another acting achievement. Maricel has practically won in every award-winning body in the country, proof of it is her long line of trophies totalling to about 15 citations, in the entire span of her acting career. "But I have not won in Urian, not once," she said with a smile adding, "it would be nice to look forward to that in the future. Para makumpleto," she said. Maricel said she was plainly having a good time that night, hobnobbing with her friends in the business when her name was called. "It was a rare chance seeing our colleagues and friends in the business gather together like that, kaya nakikipagkwentuhan ako sa kanila. Nakikipagkumustahan, kaya nung tinawag ako, they had to tell me na ako na pala. Nanalo na pala ako," she said. Maricel admits she was nervous on her way to the podium not having any idea what to say in her speech. "But I prayed and asked the Lord to guide me in the speech and it turned out okay. I thanked Him of course, foremostly, then the award giving body, my co-stars in the film, my producer and my director. I also thanked all my friends and supporters who continuously love me all these years. I’d like to believe that I was able to say everything I had to say that night. I was really happy," the woman who knows her life to be a shower of blessings from God said. The beautiful Marya who looked radiant in her Inno Sotto baby pink terno, was escorted by her eldest son Marron whose outfit was also by Inno. Marron’s two month-vacation from his military schooling in California is coming to an end this month. He leaves again on the first week of August. "I was in a table with Marron and my niece Meryll Soriano during the awards night. It felt good to be with my son. He enjoyed it. Tien had to stay home. He has classes early the next day he couldn’t afford to stay up late. He had to be asleep by 8 p.m.," the doting mother said. Maricel has nice words to say about the conduct of the FAP awards night. "I enjoyed it. I’m really glad I was there. I’d like to congratulate all those who made it possible, particularly Albert Martinez and the KAPP. It was so well-organized and we can really see the effort that they put into it. Para talagang Hollywood ang dating. And it was really nice to see everyone lending their support to this endeavor. We really felt important that night. It was classy, nakakataba ng puso," she said. "I missed the red carpet entrance because I had to be a presentor. That’s why my son and I didn’t get to walk the red carpet," she told us. That night, Maricel said several movie producers mentioned possible movie projects for her in their outfits. "Direk Maryo and the producer of Magnifico, Mrs. Violet Sevilla told me they are interested to do a movie with me. And Mother Lily also. She said we’ll be doing a movie soon. I just entrust everything up to Wyngard. Siya naman ang nakakaalam what’s best for me," she told us. Right now, Maricel is still awaiting Wyngard’s go signal as to which movie project will be up for her next. In the meantime, she just did advance tapings for "Bida si Mister, Bida si Misis" for ABS CBN. "Mr. M (Johnny Manahan, the director) is leaving for a vacation and Buboy (Cesar Montano, leading man) will be leaving for Bohol for a movie shoot. "We taped around 3-4 advance episodes, which means I have more free time to be with the kids. I’m more hands on now, as in I get to inspect Tien’s assignments as much as I can. And I enjoy the time we have with Marron, before he leaves for abroad again. I really enjoy the opportunity to bond with them." Maricel said Marron is kind of possessive with her time. "He always texts me what time I’ll finish when I am in the studio taping. And he instructs me to go right home after the taping so we can watch our favorite programs. Parang boyfriend," she laughed. Maricel is truly a picture of joy and contentment. And because we know that that peace comes from the Lord, we know, too that the reason for that is because Maricel has given back all the glory of her new life to God.
