'm going to be seeking employment as an Special Educational Assistant shortly.

I've worked with many special education teachers and educational assistants over the years as a parent of a severely disabled son with autism/intellectual disability/epilepsy & bipolar disorder (he's now an adult). However, the teacher/EA relationship will be a new one for me. (Prior to having children, I was a public children's librarian but I want to work directly with students with special needs).

I'm in the process of completing various certifications (First Aid, CPR, CPI and introductory EA course geared to classroom strategies).

Therefore, I'm looking for comments from teachers on suggestions to work well on establishing on a good relationship with your teacher and other classroom staff. (Or, the reverse: comments from EAs on working with both special education teachers and non special education teachers.) I'm also interested in hearing from what is helpful in a replacement/"on-call" special education assistants as this is the type of work I'll be doing for a while. I will probably in a variety of settings - inclusive & segegrated.

Suggestions, comments, tips (and what 'not to' would greatly be appreciated, both from teachers and EAs.

BTW, I'm in Canada so American special education legislation doesn't apply here...
