You are going a good job with your dyslexic student. However, may I suggest that you way want to consider resolving his major academic issues. We have found that typically at this age the student’s primary issue is writing. Some dyslexic students can read well enough, but on the slow side, others require some assistance. However, the writing ability at 13 is generally years behind their general education classmates.

At this point you have can start over again from the beginning of school, using a multi-sensory approach, or go the other direction and start having your dyslexic student working on college level writing material.

We created a program, which takes approximately one class period a day, for an academic year, to teach dyslexic students to write at the college level.

Fallowing either of the two approaches above will go a long way in helping your dyslexic student get over his academic concerns.
