I feel your pain. It is so hard to see your child struggle and not know how to help. Firstly you should talk to the classroom teacher and really find out what's going on. Maybe they have some suggestions at school that will be able to help. If not you should try to work on one or two things at a time, doing them frequently, rather than attacking lots of skills all at once.
When reading at home, make sure you read together every night. Talk about the book first to make it relaxing and fun. When your daughter reads out loud and comes to a word she doesn't know, tell her what it is. Don't make her struggle to sound it out. What you need to do is make reading fun and fluent for her. As she begins to enjoy reading with you, get her to look at the beginning sound of a letter, or find a work inside the word (Saturday - SAT - ur - DAY). When learning spelling words, again only pick one or two words at a time. Get her to draw the words with crazy colored markers, write the words really big, really small. Anyway that will help her to see the word over and over. Make up songs for the words to tunes you know. This really helps my daughter who struggles with spelling. We sing 'word songs' as we bike to school. Do lots of word families. All - ball, call, small, hall, wall etc. Leave charts up in her room for her to see. But don't just learn a word and forget it, you will have to keep going over the same words for a week or so. Get her confidence up and lots of encouragement.
Good luck, I hope some of these ideas help a little.
