I have been working as a t.a. for 6 years and have N.V.Q.3. I find myself struggling with teachers both recently qualified as well as the 'old school' ones. I have come to the conclusion that at university they are only taught how to teach the one type of child. Attitudes won't change until these students at teacher training colleges are given training on how to teach all types of children. Back to your problem, I find that once my dyslexic pupils have made the word out of playdough or similar, using different colours they then have a 'picture' of the word in their memory. These can often be hardened when using suitable material and kept for future sensory sessions.
