I understand this so much because something like that happened to me too Percy all the way into my teens. I was often put into little kilts and blouses and had to wear these shiny white nylon knickers when my mother wanted me to look my best for one reason or another. I remember wearing white socks with mary jane shoes and getting scolded or worse if either got dirty. My shoes were always polished and shiny. I should know; I had to polish them.
