The only time I wore what could almost be called boys clothing was when I went to school and even then I stood out. I wore the standard white shirt, tie and blazer grey long socks with blue bands around the top. These were worn with grey flannel shorts until I was 18. My grey shorts were always of the utmost brevity even for the 1970's. My mother bought them a size smaller than my waist size and then took them to a seamstress who shortened them to a 0 inch leg length and various other adjustments designed so they fitted like a second skin over my buttocks. I was always told this was to show off my pert bottom. This was definitely the case as lots of people were always patting my bottom.
