The two lairsters suddenly cringed, throwing back their heads and emitting a loud cry. Their bodies trembled and tears slipped down Sansalin's cheeks. There grieving calls continued, seemingly nonstop as each picked up after the other when one needed a breath. Their wings pinned tightly against their sides and their bodies were pressed against the ground as if in pain.

Weyring stumbled, covering her ears for she and Dale had been right next to the dragons when they picked up their wailing. Dale shook her heads, seeing stars from the sudden outburst. Flo was alarmed, like a cat as she watched the other two lairsters, confused at why they were so sad. She tried to speak with them, to no avail.
