Government, Maoist Rebels Start Peace Talks- In March the rebels signed a 22 point code of conduct which means that the government and the rebels are committed to find a peaceful solution through talking it out. It also says that the rebels have to stop biolent activites such as strikes and kidnappings. The rebels will be releasing prisoners and will not get in the way of the giving of food and medicine.

Bombs shake Nepal’s capital- On September 8th, 2003 several bombs shake Katmandu, Nepals capital, killing 1person and wounding many others. The police blame the bombings on Maoist rebels who have been fighting to turn the Himalayan kingdom into a communist republic. In doing so they have killed over 8000 people

At least 15 dead in Mountain Landslide- On August 16th, 2003 a landslide hit a mountain military base at night when nothing could be seen (about midnight). The landslide killed 15 soldiers. The landslide occurred in the Ramche base in the Rasuwa district about 59 miles away from Kathmandu. Monsoon rains began in early June. About 200 people have died since then from landslides, flash floods, and lightning strikes. Farms and roads have either been destroyed washed away or if they are even there they are seriously damaged!
