1. India Rises as Strategic US Ally
India has emerged as America's "strategic partner" in South Asia.Common interests of protecting sea lanes from the Persian Gulf to the Strait of Malacca, which is an area already controled by India's blue-water navy.In the past year, the U.S. and India have conducted about 17 different exercies together. The U.S. has also sold $200 million in major weapon systems to India, whose purpose for them is to use against Pakistan. Although this may seem like the U.S. is very friendly with India, some military analysts are unwilling to transfer technology with other countries.

2.Indian Marriage Hall Fire Kills 45
Jaishree Ramanathan, 35 and Guru Raghavender's , 38 died at their wedding, which was at Srirangam, a famous Hindu temple. Witnesses say that seniors, women, children, and men were trying to escape through a narrow stairway, only 2 feet wide,fitting only one person. Many were killed from the fire or from being stampeded on by others who were trying to escape. Although the cause of the blaze is unclear, witnesses say that the fire quickly burned the the thatched roof quickly and fell onto heads of people. Payments of 50,000 rupees (US$1,100) will be made to the families of each dead person. Grants of 15,000 rupees (US$330) will go to people seriously injured in the blaze, and 6,000 rupees (US$130) to those with minor injuries.

3.Bombay Plans Cyber Cafe' Controls
The police of India say they need new powers to prevent the misuse of the internet by what they call,terrorists, hackers, paedophiles and users of adult sites. Internet cafe owners of Bombay are angered by this new call of law change. If it passes, the internet cafe owners will have to buy a license to set up a shop. They will be legally required to set up software filters to screen out inappropriate and unsuitable content. The cafe customers would have to show identification in order to use the web. The owners of the cafe's say that it is important for India not to go down the way China went, going toward strict regulation and control. But police say that they have found that many hackers and credit card fraudsters were using a cyber cafe.
