I adore you for the reverance that you have for animals and that your influence on that has made that an undeniable part of your son, too. I think that a person who shows sensitivity to animals and such deep capacity to love and respect them, and who wins their love in turn are very special souls.

It is obviously a trait well established in your family. :)

Your last paragraph is so heartbreaking. I am so sorry for the double loss, and that fear about how your mom will come through it all. I live in that place constantly with my dad, and it is one of the reasons that I'm starting to fear ever moving on myself and leaving him alone, even if/when/it is beyond time sometimes.

My dog was bitten by a snake last week, and we had some scary moments with it, with the only available emergency vet being well over an hour away. My father puts on quite the act of pretending like the dog does nothing but drive him crazy and get in his way, but he couldn't even be around his pain, nor go with us for fear of how serious it was. When we called to tell him that he was going to be okay, the relief in his voice, and then the love in his eyes when we brought him home, trumped his game of pretend any day.

Where people and animals have that bond, it is such a complete love, isn't it?

My thoughts stay with you!
