] Date Posted: 20:50:25 02/04/04 Wed Strange coincidence Sir, Before the start of the ongoing tri-series in Australia, my friend spelled a formula: "When Rahul Dravid plays well, India wins. When Dravid fails, so does India," which is an extended version of the original John Wright formula; When Dravid plays well, India plays well. To this, I sharply reacted, criticising my friend. But now I realise, be it by sheer coincidence or due to some mysterious cause, the formula has turned out to be perfectly correct in all the matches India has played so far in the series. Whenever Dravid has scored 50 and above India has emerged victorious. When Dravid has gotten out meekly, India has lost, forget the brilliant centuries by V.V.S. Laxman and Yuvraj Singh, during one occasion (Yuvraj Singh’s punishing effort went in vain, The Cricket Age, January 23). In another one, against Australia, India lost from a position where victory was certain. I am puzzled. Is it true that Dravid alone is the "determinant factor" of the Indian team?
