Gray-blue eyes meet Marnie's, almost guarded from long practice. He gives a weak smile, glancing down at her hand with his. "You've lessened mine, Marnie...All thoughts of a death match are gone. He didn't seem as large a threat as before. When I was...well, alone. I thank you for that." Eyes raised once more to hers in sincerity, he attempts another luke-warm smile. "I won't be killed." He sounds sure, as if this were written in stone, though try as he might, the words were as elusive as smoke on a breeze. He squeezed her hand, what ifs and other questions now flooding for space in his weary mind. Did she...no, not possible...?
