1. What were you thinking when you they called your name as the winner of Miss New Jersey USA?

I never heard them call my name. I don't even remember, but as Abby and I were standing there, I felt very honored. Abby is a wonderful person and I just really felt that if they would have chosen her, that she was very much deserving of the title, but at the same time I wanted them to pick me. When they announced that she was the 1st runner up, I was in TOTAL shock and I felt ELATED!!! That feeling can never be duplicated. There is NOTHING in the world like it!

2. Did you compete in any pageants before the Miss New Jersey USA 2004 pageant?

I competed last year in Miss New Jersey USA. Prior to that, I had done a few low scale pageants in college and in high school, but never anything to this magnitude. 3. What was the hardest interview question you were ever asked?

Last year, one of the judges asked me in my personal interview if I had ever lied and when was the last time. Of course I have lied before, but I felt like once I said I lied then anything I said after that lost credibility. Fortunately for me, the time ran out before I could answer the question. :-)

4. Do you still talk to some of the friends that you made while competing at a pageant?

I haven't talked to anyone that I met while competing because I have been extremely busy, but I plan on it. I will probably remain friends with Alanah Odoms, Janelle Seales and Tara Iann.

5. What would you say to a teenage girl who wanted to be in a pageant, but was afraid to get out in front of people and compete?

I would first find out why she was afraid to get out in front of people (would it be because of weight, height, speech impediment, etc). But no matter what her reason was for being afraid, I would tell her that you only have one life and the decisions that you make will effect you for the rest of your life. If you have a dream, you have to follow it when you have the chance because you can never go back and second chances are hard to come by. You have to live each day to the fullest or risk turning into someone who always looks back and misses the new opportunities in front of them.

6. What do you think is the biggest misconception about pageants?

I think the biggest misconception about pageants is that the people in them are unintelligent, self-centered, and catty. My experience has taught me that most young women who enter into the pageant world are some of the brightest people out there. These women care about their communities and are striving to make a difference. By entering into a pageant, they will have the proper platform and medium to emphasize the importance of their message. As for cattiness, I haven't found any of that in my experience. Both years that I competed in Miss New Jersey USA, the young women were sweet, caring and very genuine.

7. What are you doing to prepare for the Miss USA pageant in March?

I am preparing by training and working out almost daily. I have pageant trainers, fitness trainers, a stylist and a team of people working with me to help sharpen the skills that I already have.

8. How do you like being a role model to girls and young women all across New Jersey?

I love it. I think it is very important for young girls and women to have positive role models that they can look up to and I enjoy that people look up to me in that way.

9. What is your favorite part of doing personal appearances?

My favorite part of doing personal appearances is meeting people (especially the children). I like meeting people and having a chance to talk to people and get to know then a little bit. Sometimes you meet people once, but you remember them forever because of something they said or did and I like to have the opportunity to meet genuine people and remember them.

10. How do you think you could help make New Jersey better?

I think I can help make NJ better through improving literacy and working with young women and teen girls. Those are my two main areas that I plan to work on outside of breast and ovarian cancer awareness. I think reading is fundamental and I would like NJ to be ranked highest in the US for reading literacy. I also believe that our futre rests in the hands of todays youth and because of that, it is important that we equip them with keys to success.
