The Lady's dark eyes looked around the entrance hall, small but elegant: oak floors, oriental rug, small tables sporting vases of flowers, double oak doors leading to the sitting room.
She walks through the doors, seeing a large room also with oak floors: velvet couches, davenports (a kind of loveseat), and sitting chairs; black oak tables; a large brick fireplace; one door leading to the dining room, another leading to the stairs.
Stepping into the dining room, Raniah finds another long black oak table, with crytal place settings in a cabinet in a corner, and a crystal chandalier.
Going up the stairs, the Lady lets the children explore their rooms [waiting for them to tug her hands and pull her into their domains to show her] and enters her own. The large, 4-poster black oak bed is covered with a white silk comforter, with white silk decoration pillows and white fleece sleeping pillows. A dressing table, with an expantion supporting the washbasin and pitcher, was made of oak, a gold-frame mirror in the center. Jars of different powders lay on the dressing table, too, and a closet held all of her dresses. A door led to the adjoining room her personal servant would use.
Mariah runs into the room, stopping for a moment to admire the room, then grabs her mother's hand and pulls on it. ..Come, Mother, and see my room! Hurry before Tainah and Jonathan come!.. The lady following, the young girl hurries to her room, which is a miniature version of her mother's, except for the powders, a smaller bed, and a toy chest at the foot of the bed.
The other daughter comes in, grabbing her mother's other hand and pulling her into her own room. ..I have my doll, and a window seat, and a book shelf!.. And there was. This room had a blue silk comforter and pillows, with a toy chest, window seat, and small bookshelf. A mirror hung on the wall above a small shelf jutting out from the wall, serving as a dressing table.
Jonathan waited for his mother to come, thinking himself too old for pulling her hand and yelling what his room had. The room had an ebony frame bed, forest-green comforters and pillows, a window seat, a writing desk, and a bookshelf, as well as a small table and a mirror.
