It is a "Festival of Beauty" performed by representatives from around the world, who sympathize with the philosophy (* Note 1) of Miss International and aim to increase women's contributions to international society. The festival symbolizes the activities of the representatives who gather once a year as " Ambassadors of Peace and Beauty", and expand their friendship network to the world, deepening mutual exchange. While their nationality, language, religion, customs and manners may be different, the self-awareness of each representative as a member of international society is improved by talking and acting together, as well as their tenderness, benevolence and friendship, which are characteristics integral to women, and are fostered in the cause of "International Goodwill" and "World Peace". The winner of Miss International is chosen through the Beauty Pageant not simply as a "Champion of Beauty". She is chosen with "beauty" supported by her intelligence and ability to take action, in addition to possessing a "great international sensibility" appropriate for the ultimate representative of all the national representatives who are trying to achieve contributions to international society. Miss International is officially called "THE INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY PAGEANT", and was born in Long Beach, California, USA in 1960. Although it had been held in Long Beach from 1961 to 1967, the event took place in Japan in 1968, 1969 and 1970, through the courtesy of the city hosting the Japan Expo. After the success of Osaka Expo '70, the location of the pageant returned to Long Beach. Since 1972, however, it has been held in Japan. From that time, Miss International has attained the status of a quasi-national event, garnering a reputation as the "Olympics of Beauty". Not simply existing as a "Festival of Beauty", but as private-level diplomacy, the representatives deepen their friendship and goodwill through mutual exchange between countries throughout the world.
