Miss International : Trivia

Prior to 1960, Long Beach in California had hosted the Miss Universe pageant. When that pageant was moved to Miami, after a dispute with Long Beach city officials, Long Beach replaced it with the Miss International pageant. It has been held annually since then, except for 1966.

From 1960 to 1967, the Miss International pageants were held in the Municipal Auditorium at the waterfront in Long Beach.

In 1968, the Miss International pageant was transferred to Japan as a prelude to EXPO Osaka in 1970. The pageant returned to Long Beach upon the completion of EXPO, but after 1971 it has been held continuously in Japan.
