Subject: gator wrasslin and noodlin

I am interested to know whether, anywhere in United Europe, citizens engage in wrestling alligators or noodling for gargantuan catfish. It just occurred to me that you may have a different name for noodling. This is a sport in which you immerse yourself in creeks or lakes, and stick your bare hand in a hole in hopes of having a large catfish bite your hand so that you can pull it out. Hand-fishing essentially. Is this a southern U.S. phenomenon?
