A Little Bit about
Sierra:
Sierra Phillips was
born on January 2, 2003. At 2 weeks old, she was diagnosed with stage
5 renal failure. She has already had 6 surgeries, in which one was to remove
her right kidney. Unfortunately, her left kidney wasn't strong enough to
function properly.
On May 26th, Sierra
will be undergoing a kidney transplant. We are blessed that Sierra didn't
have to be put on a waiting list because her grandmother, Linda Brooks, is
going to donate one of her kidneys.
The past two years
have taken a toll on the family's finances. The surgery will take place in
Birmingham, Alabama, where Sierra and her family will
have to remain for up to two months after the surgery. They will be
responsible for their living expenses there and here. They have also been
informed that Sierra's medications could run $2,000-$3,000 a month, and will
be responsible for a portion of these expenses.
