Harriet Vernon was the stage name of Harriett Maria Whitehouse (B.1858 in Lambeth, London). She married my great-grandfather when she was just 16 in 1875 even though they were first cousins (which makes her my 1st cousin 3x removed). They had 3 children but her infidelity led to divorce. She went on to marry Albert Marks in 1898 but once again this ended up in divorce. She died in Doncaster in 1923 after taking ill whilst travelling with the 'old time artistes' who were performing at the Doncaster Grand theatre.

Although initially a singer Harriet Vernon became well known as a pantomime 'boy' and toured New York (1893) and South Africa (1896). An internet search will provide more information.
