The definitive directories covering London West End productions, with a supurb alphabetical index of plays and actors,is "The London Stage 1920-29" by J.P.Wearing. Published in ten year volumes, just substitute the year e.g. 1890-99. Very expensive second hand (likely to be over £100 per volume)but research copy in Theatre Museum London and some university libraries. Several volumes successfully researched by me at my local library using the inter-library request scheme (minimal cost). Ask there - returned 1920-29 edition last week! Best of luck. No knowledge of equivalent for provincial theatres. Steve
