Subject: Gertie Millar

I am researching a portrait painting of a lady believed to be the actress Gertie Millar. The likeness is close enough to your published photographs, but not necessarily conclusive. However, the portrait is inscribed by the artist (whose name is also unclear) "to my friend N P G Miller" (sic). Or possibly "W J G Miller".

Does anyone know Gertie's full name? Does it co-incide with these initials? Or could they be her father's initials, for whom this portrait might, I suppose, have been painted. It is dated 1899.

I would be most grateful for any information on the above.

With thanks

Nicholas Bagshawe
