I had my annual Pap test in June and it came back abnormal. My family doctor asked me about my sexual history and if my partner had warts and if we used condoms. I told him that we had been together for a year and a half and that I never saw any warts on him and that we do not use condoms. He said that it was a possibility that I had contracted HPV/genital warts from him. He asked me to come back for a second pap test to confirm the results of the first one. The second pap test came back abnormal as well. My family doctor suggested that I go to a gynacologist for a colposcopy/biopsy and said that I would possibly need laser surgery. At this point I was very scared and felt pretty sure that I must have HPV. I went to the gynacologist and she did a colposcopy/biopsy. She called me back today with the results and said that the test came back fine and that she did not feel she needed to see me again. She just reccomended that I continue to have annual paps. She did not mention me having HPV at all nor did she suggest further testing. I am relieved that there is nothing seriously wrong with me but I am also confused as to why my pap tests came up abnormal twice. I am assuming that if I had HPV or the possibility of having HPV my gynacologist would have talked to me about it. Everything that I have read basically says that if a pap comes back abnormal it is indicative of HPV. I would greatly appreciate any information or comments that anyone could give me. Thanks for listening.
