Tonights dance classes at the Edison Park, Elmhurst and Gaelic Park locations are cancelled due to the snow, with the exception of the Elmhurst 7:00-8:30 pm class which will be held as scheduled.

Elmhurst Beginners can make up class on Thursday from 5:30-7:00, or any other Beginner class this session. All other dancers can make up classes this week or attend other another class this session to make up for the Snow Day.

Please stay safe and enjoy the snow!!!

First off, I would like to thank all of you who participated in the Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser for the dancers attending the World Championships. Your participation was greatly appreciated and we thank you. As we write this it is a great game and I hope your lucky numbers come up.


As result of an unforeseen emergency, we need to rearrange classes in Elmhurst this week. Breda unfortunately will be unable to teach class this week due to being out of town tending to a family matter. Therefore, classes in Elmhurst will be covered between Mike, Mary Alice and Peggy for this upcoming week and modified as follows:


Monday 4:00 - 5.30 Level 2 Peggy Godley
Monday 5.30 - 7.30 Level 4 Mike Mullane
Monday 7.30 - 9.30 Level 4 CANCELLED - PLEASE COME TO 5:30 CLASS


Tuesday 4:00 - 5:30 Level 3 CANCELLED - PLEASE COME TO 7:00 CLASS
Tuesday 5.30 - 6.30 Level 1 Mary Alice Godley
Tuesday 7:00 - 8.30 Level 3 and 4 Mike Mullane

We understand that the modified schedule for this week may cause some problems and conflict with a dancer’s after school or extra-curricular schedule. We tried to make the disruption and cancellations in classes as minimal as possible, especially knowing that we have dancers not only preparing for the All-Ireland Championships but for the Feis this weekend in St. Louis. Due to this revised schedule and cancelled classes, if a class time at the Edison Park studio is a better fit, your dancer is more then welcome to attend their class in Edison Park. The class time for that studio can be found on-line. And we truly do appreciate your understanding with the modified schedule in Elmhurst for the upcoming week.


Please remember as previously noted, the week of February 14th is a scheduled off week due to the teaching staff attending the All-Ireland Dance Championships in Killarney, Ireland. We want to take this opportunity to wish our dancers - Orla, Sinead, Clare, Nathan, Tara, Caitlin, Brendan, and John - attending the All-Ireland Championships the best of luck.


We will back to normal schedules the week of February 21, 2010. And just to reiterate, if a class is missed this week due to the modified schedule, dancers can take a class at Edison Park, or make it up after classes resume on February 21, 2010 in Elmhurst.

I am looking to buy a novice dress for my daughter. This is her first solo dress. I have many questions on how to go about it! Is there a certain "type" of dress that is or is not appropriate? Are some too elaborate for the novice level? Also, has anyone ever bought some on line. I have seen some really nice ones on dance again, etc. but not sure if they are trustworthy/reliable. Thanks for any input! I really appreciate any advice as I have no idea what I am doing!!! LOL!

Dear MHoBster's,

As many of you know this October I was diagnosed w/ a very rare aggressive breast cancer. I have had one surgery and I just started treatment last week w/ one more surgery to follow. The reoccurence rate for this breast cancer is very high because it cannot be treated w/ any hormone medication (like most breast cancers) after treatment. This cancer has only recently been discovered and there are many clinical trials trying to find the best way to deal with this cancer...by the way it is called TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER.

I am posting this note today to let you know that Sean and I will be walking this Mother Day with a team of friends and family that has just begun by a friend of mine from work. We are asking you to please join our team or consider making a contribution to our team.

My HOPE is that someday through efforts like the WALK TO EMPOWER that I will not have to live in fear of my disease due to monies raised through fundraisers such as WALK TO EMPOWER.

I went back to hotel yesterday am. to look for Allie's dress bag AND the hotel staff at the desk called Lost + found.They didnt have it....I had seen it the night before and didnt now who it belonged to or if they would back to get it(sunday 8pm). So i asked to look in the Delaware room monday 7am..again..just by chance a maintenance man was walking by, and opened the room...nothing was there...SO we asked where the linens would be taken to..and another maintenance man said ...We put everything valuable in this room..it was located kitty corner to our practice room. Opened the door and there Everything was! it was all in piles..and plastic bags...mixed up. So i got Allie's dress bag and makeup case, i also have a MHOB jacket(Katie O), pair of pink slippers, blue shorts with "Illinois" written on the butt, a black fleece jacket(Northface Polartec)...that was all i could identify from our room that i had remembered. i will be bringing it to elmhurst when i can get there.i cant recall a green SR. bag, but there was a lot of stuff.If you call the Hotel, please ask to have them check the maintenance storage closet/room. Not the lost and found... I hope that is all that was missing from our school...hope everyone made it back safe and well!GO MHOB!!!!

Team MHoB did great this weekend.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the "costume moms" who made this weekend happen for the dancers. Without your help in moving costumes from dancer to dancer, team to team, and stage to stage - - the success the dancers had on stage would not have been possible.

Having school owned costumes and sharing them amongst the dancers is a lot of work that falls on our costume moms and for that we are extremely thankful for all your help. It is grately appreciated. Also, thanks to all the parents who got their dancers where they needed to be at the right time. Your cooperation was appreciated.

What might have gone unnoticed this weekend is that MHoB was the ONLY school in the entire Region that had a team entered in each Ceili and Choreography competition. Through all the hard work, we had at least one team place in every competition ... and none lower then 5th place. That is a remarkable accomplishment - congrats to all the dancers.

Subject: Booster Club Portable Dance floor - needs ride to Columbus!

The Booster Club has purchased 31 Jubilee portable dance floor tiles for practices, performances, etc. I will take delivery of them this afternoon. I can bring them to Columbus but will not arrive until late Fri afternoon.

If anyone is able to transport them on Thursday to the MHoB practice room, for the Friday and Saturday dancers to practice, that would be ideal. I can bring them home Sunday night. If you can, please email me at kathyfd@gmail.com I can bring them to EP. The seller tells me they are pretty compact and stack one upon another, and will fit easily in a trunk.

For those first-timers or anyone in need of a nice dress to wear to the Oireachtas Dinner Dance, Katie will be bringing four dresses to the Edison Park studio Wednesday around 7 p.m.

Two are new with tags from Macy's and two have been gently worn to a high school dance or two. Sizes Medium and 5/6, priced from $10 to $30, two black, one bright pink and one zebra print with purple.

I just wanted to take a minute to give a HUGE thank you to all of the helpers today with the wreath sale deliveries!!!

Everything this year ran so much smoother thanks to all of the help!

From the 7th and 8th grade helpers (Bri, Maddie and Colleen), to the moms that picked up whole studio offers for their deliveries (Karen Gleason, Kelly Murphy-twice!, Tammie O'Donnell, Katie B, Denise Illing and Colleen Kohn!), to Mike Mullane and Johnny Godley (who was called and arrived in Elmhurst in minutes!!!), to young Michael Mullane sitting at the EP studio ---- this was a huge group effort and I wanted to say thanks for help make it all work!!!

I appreciate all of your help today!

Thanks to all of the MHoB families that participated in this year's wreath sale! We had twice as many families this year than last year! Way to go!!!!

The wreaths are being delivered to Elmhurst this Saturday around 9:00 am. They will then have to be organized per family order.

Here's the pick up times and info per studio:
Elmhurst studio families: pick up at Steven's steakhouse parking log (476 N. York; intersection of York and Lake Street; 2 block north of studio) around 12:00 - 2:00

If you can't make the Elmhurst pick up time, please email to make other arrangements. If I don't hear from you and your order is still in Steven's parking lot - you will have to come to my house to pick them up.

Quad Cities Studio Families: Shannon will bring them to your regular classes on Sunday, November 15th.

Gaelic Park Studio Families: Colleen Kohn will pick them up on Saturday. More specific time to follow.

Edison Park Studio Families: The orders are being brought to the EP studio from Elmhurst. Tentative time for pick up: 2:00 - 4:00 (note: Tentative!!!) More specific time to follow shortly!

Please make every effort to pick up your orders on Saturday.

If you are missing something from your order, please email me and I'll see if it was found elsewhere.

To keep your greenery fresh, leave your wreaths outside. Maybe in the backyard, on a deck, etc. As long as they are outside, they will stay fresh.

Thanks to everyone for making this a great fundraiser for MHoB! All money raised goes right back to our dancers and families!

Due to freight/trucking issue, our wreath order is coming to us EARLY!!!!!

Please note and mark your calendars!!
Our new delivery date is Saturday, NOVEMBER 14!!!! One week earlier!

I don't have the delivery time from the trucking company yet but I will pass it on when it becomes available!

I've been asked about keeping the wreaths fresh with them coming early - if you keep them outside, the greenery should be fine. Maybe lay them on your back porch, deck, etc. until you are ready for your holiday decorating!

I will keep everyone updated as soon as I get more information!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of our MHoB parents who took time yesterday and volunteered to make the Halloween Feis a success. It's not easy to run a large Feis, but with such great help, you all made it look so easy - and the dancers and parents who attended appreciate your efforts.

I'd like to thank all of our Committee Chairs who planned, organized, amd implemented their various committees to make the Feis a success. Thanks to Kathy Dale for bringing it all together. All her advanced planning made the Feis day run smoothly. There are always a few hiccups - not many - and we will continue to improve on those and keep this Feis one of the best in the Midwest.

PLEASE register NOW on-line for one (or more) of the remaining feis volunteer shifts! The MHOB Halloween Feis has been known as one of the "Best in the Midwest" because of the cooperative parent volunteers. We all want the feis to run smoothly and be a wonderful time for all and then move on to our own Halloween festivities.

Thanks to ALL who have already registered for one (or more) of the feis shifts. We are asking the remaining 55 families that have registered for the Feis, but not yet volunteered, to pitch in and help. We are in great need of Sat afternoon tabulators and clean-up help - all stages are scheduled to finish by 3pm at the latest. So, help out Sat afternoon and you will still have plenty of time for your Halloween fun!

REMINDER - OIREACHTAS team dancers: The team dress rental rate is partially based upon whether a member of your family worked a feis shift - your rate will be reduced by $30 if so. So, sign up now to secure the lower dress rental fee!

The MHOB Halloween Feis has been known as one of the "Best in the Midwest" because of the cooperative parent volunteers. We are asking all MHOB families that have registered for the Feis to sign up for at least one volunteer shift. All other families are encouraged to help out as well. Please complete the form online ASAP. You can view the current volunteer list to see which shifts are available.

As it is Halloween, all of us would like to be out of the venue early and onto to trick-or-treating and parties. Your help is greatly needed on the Saturday afternoon shifts, especially the clean-up shifts - clean-up will start as early as 2:30pm - so that we can wrap up the event ASAP. We are targeting a complete exit by 6pm at the latest. PLEASE sign up now for a feis shift.

As a reminder, the Oireachtas dress rental fees are significantly reduced for all Oireachtas dancer families that work at least one shift at the feis. Many shift options remain so please sign up now.

REMEMBER: Sell 8 or more pieces of greenery to get a free Oireachtas dress rental!

I ran into a few moms who thought it might be nice to get the girls together to socialize. I just wanted to put a call out to see if people are available for a pizza party following the dress fitting on Sat. 24th. The fitting is from 3:30 to 4:30.

The MHoB Wreath Sale is On!
Sale of items: October 3rd through November 2nd

• We are asking all MHoB families to sell/buy at least 1 wreath.
• All Oireachtas bound dance families are asked to sell an additional 2 items (or more!)
• For each Oireachtas dancer that sells more than 8 wreaths, your dress rental fee will be waived!

The MHoB Booster Club will be using these profits to purchase a portable dance floor (to use at MHoB shows), MHoB Christmas party, Oireachtas practice room extras (water, fruit, goodies, etc.)!

Made to fit 5'6" tall 14 - 16 year old dancer.

Excellent condition --- all crystals intact. Add'l crystals put on crown.

I have 2 pairs of hard shoes for sale. One is a Flexi-Step size 3 1/2 and the other is a size 4. Asking $35 for the size 3 1/2 and $50 for the size 4. I also have a soft pair size 4/5 asking $20.

Thanks to all who have signed up to help at our feis.

Please review the schedule posted on-line to verify your shift - you ahould also receive an email confirming your shift.

We need HELP with the clean-up on Sunday afternoon - I know it's Father's Day but if mom, dad or the kids can spare even an hour or 2 to come and help, it's greatly needed. Think about this also as a potential opportunity for service hours for your child...

We remain in need of volunteers especially in the critical areas of stage construction, Sunday afternoon teardown/cleanup and tabulation. Please register on-line ASAP for a volunteer shift so, thanks to you, we can again deliver the finest feis in the Midwest!!

The volunteer schedule is posted on-line at our website so that you may verify the volunteer shift for which you are registered. ALso, if you have not yet registered, you can consult the schedule to see what areas still require volunteers.

Finally - As a reminder, all dancer families that will be attending the NANs must register on-line at for at least one volunteer shift to be eligible for a NANs travel stipend and to have the team dress rental fee waived. Please check in on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for each volunteer shift at the MHoB Booster Club booth (located in the center area of the feis) with the volunteer coordinators so we can record your service. The record of your service is required to be eligible for the stipend.

If your family does not volunteer on Fri/Sat/Sun, and your child is participating on a NANs team, the NANs dress rental fee is $40 and a check payable to MHoB Booster Club should be given to your teacher by Wednesday, June 25th.
