Many generations ago the ancestors of our horses and wolves lived glorious lives amid this land, ensuring that the territory they claimed as their own would remain unchanged so that they could pass it onto their descendents, and so allowing them to lead equally glorious lives. Change, however, is a way of life, and slowly but surely the horses’ homes were spiralling into ruin. Desperation gripped the residents, they struggled to claim land off of each other but their effort were futile. Bonds were fragmented, they found themselves in constant war and it was this troubled life that they passed onto their children to bear. The collapse of the Horse herds’ success meant a collapse to the Wolf packs’ success. Disease eventually put an end to the already broken lives of the Horses and the Wolves, and of course each species blamed the other for bringing it upon the land. The wiser ones though recognised it as a blessing, the disease finally giving them mercy and allowing them to rest peacefully in eternal sleep.

Alas, life was not over for them all. Among the dead herds and packs the two strongest of each found themselves faced with the challenge of Purgatory before it could be decided what realm of the afterlife they belonged in, or whether they even belong there at all. The greater spirits have returned to their homes, their ghostly frames battered and broken yet their hearts still swell with the pride of their homelands and all they once stood for. Though they return a nobody with their withered reputes barely intact, those destined to prosper undoubtably will. Their battle cries are the whispers of the wind, their movements the trickle of a stream and their determination to once again be significant glows as brightly as the sun's dawning rays. They are not illusions, they are coming back to face unfinished business and fulfil their duty of securing the land for the next generation, and discovering for themselves where they really belong within the multiple planes of life and death.

For the sake of the future. For the sake of the past.

Purgatory is both a horse RPG and a wolf RPG.
The characters are in the realm between life and death where their actions will decide their fate.
Purgatory is a parallel universe to the 'real' world with all the same laws of physics.
