We have seen the Zeitgeist film and were planning on doing a little piece to refute their ridiculous claims about the Lord Jesus. Here are just a few of our thoughts concerning the film: Their first claim that Horus was virgin born is the first lie-- nothing in historical documents says anything of the sort and building upon this, they make some trumped up claim that Jesus is Horus but yet their theory falls like a house of cards. They are the blind leading the misinformed. True journalism uses credible sources. Yet they put together their prejudices with myth and call it truth. About the only connection they got right between Horus and Jesus was that both of them were of royal descent, and that Horus allegedly worked miracles as Jesus surely did and that there were murder plots against each of them. The rest of that chapter of their movie is pure fiction. And the movie is simply ridiculous in their claims against the Bible. They also fail to see that the Bible is NOT mythological, as are their resources for the film; but rather the Bible is very scientific...the moon and sun are not depicted as gods but rather as elements. There is nothing mythological about the Bible but rather ancient myths were developed upon the truths of origin. In other words, the truth that is found in God's Word became lost in world civilizations as time went on. Ancient religions speak of Adam and Eve and the serpent in some regard. Many speak of the Great Deluge, etc. but none of the ancient accounts point to sin, as the reason for these things. The Bible addresses the issue of sin against God and its remedy; and it stands alone in this regard. The Bible points to a Triune God, "Let us make man in our image..." and it also addresses the sin barrier that exists. God is holy, man is rebellious in his heart. While ancient Egyptians were spearing cow dung on their babies, the Bible called these things "unclean." God addresses the Jews to wash their hands, to keep themselves clean, to circumcise their child on the 8th day-- unknown to the Jews was the fact that the 8th day is the only safe day in which a baby boy can be circumcized without the risk of bleeding to death. This is a proven fact. While the rest of the people throughout the world thought the earth to be flat-- God's Word called it a circle. There are hundereds of examples about these things. While the ancient religions were sacrificing their children upon altars, the Lord forbid the Jews from practicing such things. Whenever the Bible has been preached, in its pure form, to foreign barbarous tribes, a civilized society emerges. The very reason the Jews rejected Jesus, as a whole is the very reason why Gentiles accepted Him. Had the Jews all accepted Messiah, then the world would have said, "Now wait a minute...how do we know that you did not alter these prophecies to fit your Messiah?" But because the Jews rejected Christ, and yet still kept the prophecies in tact, we can be sure that no alterations to the text were done. They have the prophecies but claim no understanding to them. In the Old Testament, we have hundreds of prophecies concerning the Messiah. The prophets were all persecuted, stoned to death, etc. by the Israelites. The ungodly did not like their message, but still nonetheless they kept their writings and believed them to be men from God. The Prophets foretold of a Messiah coming. Very SPECIFIC prophecies were given and it is not until all of them are put together that we see the life of Messiah prophesied as a whole. The Jews (who were the only Monotheistic religion in the world) rejected Jesus on the premise that He claimed to be God, but the Bible says that Messiah will be God in Isaiah 9:6 which says, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." and they also failed to see into Isaiah 52 and 53 and Psalm 22 that Messiah would be put to death. To this day, they give no credible explanation of what these verses mean. They also are forbidden to read them in synagogue. Also the Prophet Daniel prophesied of Messiah's arrival. It would have to be before the Temple was destroyed and the exact time-frame is given. (Daniel 9:24-26). And let us take the disciples of Jesus-- if they truly made up some story about Jesus, they would have done so with them as the center. They would depict themselves as men of valor and men of bravery. Instead, it is written of them that they were confused, rebuked by Jesus, they forsook Jesus in His greatest hour of need, they were fearful to go to the tomb-- the women went instead! and then when the women returned with the news that Christ had risen, the disciples did NOT even believe the women. Would anyone depict themselves in this light? Not! Yet that is the truthful account and so the Bible records it. Also the Gospel says that Jesus appeared to women first. If man had dreamed up the Gospel account, they certainly would have had Jesus appearing to the men, and not the women (since men were considered to be much more credible in that patriarchal society.) And no man willingly will suffer himself to be tormented for something he KNOWS is a lie. Yet the disciples all were persecuted and beaten and martyred for the sake of the Gospel. Why? Because they had seen Jesus Christ alive. The knew He was the Christ, the Risen One from the dead. Voltaire rejected the Bible citing the passage in Revelation 11 where it says, that the whole world will see the Two Witnesses laying in the streets of Jerusalem for three days. He said, "How can the whole world see two men within three days time?" Yet today, we know it is not just a possibility but a REALITY. Satellite TV, biochips, nuclear weapons-- all of that was prophesied long ago in God's Holy Word. May anyone who struggles with doubt pray to God for truth-- and truth is found in the Scriptures.
