The Chronicles Project

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Dear Pastor,

My name is Paul Eby. I am a member of Berean Baptist Church, Wichita, KS, an independent, fundamental, KJV church. God has placed this verse on my heart and has lead me to share with others what He has shown me. My plan is to share this letter with as many IFKJVB churches as possible. I am using IFKJVB churches not only because I am a member of one, but because all of them I know of are good solid churches. If you feel that this commentary is worth sharing with other good, solid churches, I encourage you to do so.
The familiar verse above is one of God's great promises, but, as we so often do with familiar things, we tend to read it and move on without giving it much thought. I would like to share with you some of my thoughts regarding this wonderful promise.
God gives two kinds of promises: conditional and unconditional. The fact that the promise begins with the word “If” means that this is a conditional promise. We'll look at the conditions in a moment.
To whom is God making this promise? To “My people.” It is not to the politicians or the courts or the educators or the businessmen nor does the outcome depend on them. It is immaterial who is in the White House, the supreme court, or congress, it matters only that God is on His throne. In addition, the promise is to those who are “called by my name.” It is not to the Muslims or the Mormons or the Hindus or Buddhists or the members of any other false faith.
The conditions of the promise are linked by the word “and”. This means that all four conditions must be met before God can do His part. It won't do to think “I'm too good to be humble”, or “I don't really have any wicked ways to turn from.” We must humble ourselves and pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. Only then will God hear from heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land. Do you believe that our land needs to be healed? So do I. It is up to us. For too long we have sat back and watched our culture deteriorate around us and have done nothing. We have failed God, our country, and ourselves. I believe that abortion is an indictment against God's people. I believe that the widespread acceptance of homosexuality is an indictment against God's people. I believe that the teaching of evolution in our schools at the exclusion of the truth is an indictment against God's people. I believe that the exclusion of God from our public schools in 1962 is an indictment against our fathers.
God has impressed on me the urgent need for prayer. Not just any prayer, but humble, God-seeking prayer. He is leading me to spread this message as far as possible. Initially I plan to send this to just a church or two in each state, praying that God will direct my random selections to churches with a strong prayer ministry and which will help spread this word.
Do you believe in the power of prayer? Then I urge you to challenge your congregation, especially your good prayer warriors, to pray. Not just to say a prayer, but to get down on their knees and do business with God, humbly, in repentance, seeking His will. “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Our land can be healed. God says so. It's up to God's people. It's up to us.

In Christ, c/o Berean Baptist Church
