CODE COMPLIANCE SUPERVISOR SUBMITS RESIGNATION

City Manager Jean-Ann McGrane announced today that Bill Cummings, Code Compliance Supervisor for the City of Newburgh, has submitted his resignation, effective October 31, 2006. Mr. Cummings was the subject of a recent complaint filed by an employee of his department.

“Mr. Cummings will continue to work on matters of importance to the City of Newburgh, including community revitalization, the new courthouse project and others from his home until his resignation takes effect,” Ms. McGrane said.

City Fire Chief James Merritt will assume overall charge of the Code Compliance Department until a new department head is appointed. Steven Hunter, an experienced Code Enforcement Officer certified by the State of New York will assume interim supervisory duties over the day-to-day operations of the City Office of Code Enforcement.

The City Manager said, “It is regrettable that the City of Newburgh shall no longer benefit from Mr. Cummings’ services. During his time as a City department head, the Code Compliance agency has done an outstanding job establishing new standards of cleanliness and public safety. In addition, Mr. Cummings has carried out other duties on significant projects of great importance to the City and its citizens. It is appropriate to take notice of his contributions to our City. However, the great progress which the city has made in so many areas, including the formulation of a Master Plan, the Waterfront Development Project, the construction of the new City Courthouse, City Charter review and so many others, will continue with vigor and enthusiasm.”

aweeeee!!!
