Dear Levi:

I liked everything you said about why you decided to change Litkicks, and I liked the way you said it, too. I think you're right on target in many respects about where you want the website to go, and why. IMHO, more opportunities to do things in a structured setting is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. I will certainly give you the month of October and probably much longer. I want to see how this plays out, and what you are going to do.

The part about "complacency" and having a businessman's approach your website ... Levi, I have seen this attitude work both ways. In my experience, it's about 50/50. Some change works, and some doesn't. I know the popular philosophy is that since the world is changing so rapidly, WE must change with it. As you can see from my previous messages, I tend to be more conservative than that. People haven't changed that much, and people are what runs any business, any website, any enterprise, in the long run. I am not saying this to put you down. I think you've got a great attitude about this. I've seen some advantages already to your new approach, and I've certainly seen how Litkicks has gotten to be overburdened with a lot of unnecessary stuff -- You are right to want to make changes.

On the other hand, what Doreen has written below is RIGHT on target. I can't add anything to what she's said --she said it perfectly. I can only add my own emphasis to one point -- discussing issues on the message boards you put in place has been a VERY educational experience for me. It's improved my writing style. It's improved my style of argumentation. It's caused me to read books I would never had decided to read under ordinary circumstances. And this is JUST after being on your site for about TWO MONTHS! Writing doesn't take place in a vacuum. When you write, you are writing FOR other people -- an audience. How that audience reacts is crucial to your success. With the message boards we had an opportunity to bounce ideas off of other people all day long! It was fantastic! And only "other people" but other INTELLIGENT people, other WRITERS and ARTISTS
