Gionna Jimenez Cabrera, 22 year old, stands at 5’10 (178 cm), a graduating student taking up Integrated Marketing and Advertising at the University of Asia and the Pacific, and a part-time professional commercial and ramp model. She plans to work in the field of journalism as a reporter or TV broadcaster, and hopes to become a diplomat in the future, as an ambassador to the United Nations.
The daughter of Rodrigo Cabrera, a general manager and a CEO, and the former Nida Jimenez, an independent businesswoman, Gionna claims that she is a mixture of her parents. She has that intellectual curiosity and scholarly ambitions that were influenced by her father, and from her mom, creativity and passion for the arts. She is very fluent in English, having studied in the best schools in the Philippines.
Her statuesque beauty and distinctive fresh Spanish descent (mestiza) looks, but with a twist of bronze- tan skin complexion, prompted a talent scout who runs a modeling agency in the Philippines to invite her to enlist for the 2005 edition of the Bb. Pilipinas. Though a neophyte in beauty contests, she agreed, realizing that this could serve as her passport to achieving her dream of becoming an Ambassador to the United Nations.
From day one of the competition, her class, natural poise and regal bearing were just too impossible to go unnoticed. She reminded a lot of people who have seen her in person, of a tall version of Ms. Margarita Moran (Miss Universe 1973), her graceful moves were natural, effortless and unrehearsed. Her feminine flair was refined, controlled, and yet, spontaneous. During the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, Gionna impressed the viewers with her towering height, lean, and supermodel body figure and regal stance. She went on bagging the much coveted titles of Ms. Photogenic, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown (an unprecedented feat in Bb. Pilipinas history). She was then crowned as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2005, besting 22 other candidates (some were seasoned beauty pageant veterans including Carlene Aguilar who was a Miss Chinese International-2nd Runner – up and Ms. Earth – Semi-finalist). With this victory, she earned the right to compete with the world’s most beautiful women in the Miss Universe Pageant in to be held in Bangkok, Thailand next month.
Gionna speaks ………………………
On Being a Filipina……….
”Being an embodiment of the Filipino ideas of feminity, having delicadeza, grace, faith in the Lord, patience, and sense of gratitude to her fellowmen.”
HER DEFINITION OF A SEXY WOMAN IS ..................
”Someone in touch with her sensuality. Someone who is confident in her abilities and who stands for what she believes in.”
Stance on the relevance of beauty contests today …………
“Beauty contests show and portray how women could really be up to being. Some feminists may be against beauty contests but that’s their opinion. They are entitled to it like everybody else is entitled to her own opinion. As a beauty queen, I must express myself in my best physical form and at the same time exercise a good mental projection. She should be well-rounded, not only good to look physically but good to listen to as well.”
FOR HER, THE GREATEST SOCIAL ISSUE FACING WOMEN TODAY WOULD BE …………………
“The deprivation of basic human rights of women is the biggest social issue for women today. Example, the Taliban women in Afghanistan who are not allowed to go to school and stay illiterate all their lives. "March is women’s month. Women’s rights should be in focus. Women should not allow their rights to be trampled upon, "
ON WOMEN’S EQUALITY WITH MEN ..................................
” I believe that the status of women has been raised to the same level with men. (The Philippine) Congress is in the process of passing the Women Rights Bill and that’s a good sign. Even in the work force, women holds positions previously reserved only for men.”
The three most pressing problems in the Philippines and her platforms in order to solve them are…………………
” Terrorism, the educational system and infrastructure. How to solve them? Stricter implementation of the laws of which we have more than enough. Better pay for teachers so they’ll be inspired in their work.”
What is the essence of being a woman?
”Being more sensitive to the affection of a man. Being able to try more roles in society. Being a woman of God, with strong convictions and faith.”
Her words of wisdom to the women of her time ………………………….
“Focus on your aspirations. Never turn down good opportunities that may pass only once in your life. Remain optimistic and always be faithful to God."
A very spontaneous lady who knows how to articulate her thoughts in a straightforward manner, with fluency, conviction and without any sign of hesitancy, Gionna’s Interviews reflects the natural beauty that she is. Her answers to the questions are educated and well-informed, but not rehearsed. She has a good grasp not only of the English language but also on relevant social issues and current world events. She also gives well supported and explored answers. This level of speaking ability is a rarity nowadays for a Bb. Pilipinas Queen. She may even surpass the achievements former of Mss. Philippines - Nina Ricci Alagao and Zorayda Ruth Andam, who were known to be outstanding ladies in this department, with her eloquence and confidence in handling interviews considering that at this point, she is not over yet with the preparation phase prior to the Miss Universe Pageant.
INDEED, GIONNA CABRERA, MS. PHILIPPINES IS A BEAUTY WITH SUBSTANCE.
Presently she is in the thick of a rigorous training program to further prepare her for the main event. She is set to leave for Colombia for the finishing touches before going to Bangkok, Thailand for the Miss Universe 2005.
Prepare for the next Asian Invasion of Miss Universe come this May, and who knows, Miss Philippines could be in the makings of the next Porntip N. (Miss Universe 1988).
