Dear Sirs,
I have just recently read the opening remarks on your web page and I feel compelled to send you my feelings regarding what was said in those first few paragraphs. Let me first say that I love Wales very much. My mother is Welsh, coming form the town of Aberbargoed. She moved to the US in 1964 and we have only been back to Wales a few times (twice for me).
I am actually attending University now in hopes that my family and I will be able to immigrate to Wales after the completion of my Masters Degree. I plan to teach at a Welsh University while finishing my PHD and becoming a professor in Business. It is my hope that in some small way, I can contribute to the future of Wales where the generations that I teach can make their own destiny and not fall subject to any outside economic powers as their ancestors did when the English dug up Wales' coal, leaving the countryside and the economy stripped.
Recently here in the states, nine men in Pennsylvania were stranded 200 feet beneath the surface in a collapsed coal mine. This event caused me to look back at the sacrifice my Welsh ancestors had made. Particularly my grandfather Charles (Charlie) James who worked in the Brittania Collery in Aberbaroged his entire life. He also loved to sing, like your fathers. I was touched by the paragraph that mentioned how your members no longer mine for coal but, for the most part, have found better lives and occupations.
I guess I really just wanted to say thank you for writing such a nice introduction to yourselves, the choir and Wales. I also sing, it must be in the Welsh blood, and I love to hear the Welsh choirs. I take great pride in my heritage and I can tell that you do as well. I listened to some of the extracts from your recordings and I think your feelings of nationalism are reflected in your voices. Please extend my appreciation and praise to your choir, I think they have excellent voices. When I do arrive in Wales (in just about two years time) I will definitely come to Abertilley to hear the choir. I apologize if this email is a little muddled up, I don't think I've been able to write what I've been feeling, but for some reason I was moved by your words and had to let you know that out of the millions of people surfing the internet, you were able to make an impact on at least one of us.
Thank you very much ( or should I say Diolch yn fawr) for your recollections of growing up in Wales, your Welsh pride and your fine voices.
