Yep, he's still a hatchling - About 2 or 3 I think.
The wings? Three digit wings have 3 wing bones in the wing and are tipped with a dangerously curved single or double spike at the joining poing of the 3 bones. They are used for fast speeds and maneuverability and agility, but are not good for gliding or for long periods of flying. They are thin and shorter than four digit wings - think peregrine falcon :-)
Four digit wings are broad and large, depending on the type. There are two types: Lesser and Greater. All in all, they both have four, large wing bones. They do not end in a wickedly curved spike but instead a blunt tipped bone. These wings are greatly used for long distances and gliding on thermals, and as shields. A Lesser four-digit wing has less surface area and are slightly more agile than the other type, but not close to the quickness and speed of the three-digit. A Greater four-digit wing are literally HUGE and arent very good with agility, but can achieve pretty high speeds. There ya go!
