In reply to: XOX 's message, "Fundies attack on Unitarianism" on 15:00:00 07/26/04 Mon

Thank you. I am aware of that.

His attack is valid on doctrinal basis---Unitarianism is in opposition to Trinitarianism, and protection of Trinitarianism against heretic competition was one of the major purposes of the formation of the Nicene Creed, one of the foundational Creeds of traditional Christianity.

Being a Unitarian Universalist, my reply is that the term Unitarian in this name does not imply requirement of upholding of theological Unitarianism. Unitrain Universalism is a non-creedal religion. That means we have no creed for others to be judged as heretic. In other words, we are not insisting on theological Unitarianism; a Unitarian Universalist can well be a Trinitarian Christian! All a Fundamentalist can challenge is that we are so inclusive that our church is no longer exclusively Christian.

Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association:

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:

1.The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
2.Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
3.A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
4.The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
5.The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
6.Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
