I think they already tried that ... just like the industry tried to prevent the sale of VCRs and audio tape decks back when they were a new idea.

The record companies (and others) might be hard headed and stubborn and powerful, but they haven't been able to stop technological advancement yet ... if they really want to stay successful, they would embrace new technologies and use them to make money.

Apple's done quite well with the online iTunes Music Store ... why didn't the record companies think of that 5 years ago? The lawsuits haven't saved them, but iTunes and other services like it probably will.
