John,

Are you sure Lexis/Nexis offers free service to universities? I thought the databases were covered under the VIVA (Virtual Library of Virginia) Fund, which is a dollar amount set up and paid by the state - I believe last year's figure was $50 million. Now, Lexis/Nexus may give universities a discount, but I believe we still pay for their use. I personally don't believe what Lexis/Nexis did was right. If such a system is in place, then there is no need to hide from it. They are afterall a business out to make money and there is nothing wrong with that. If all the universities in Virginia decided to withdraw their services (no matter how minimal their payment) I believe Nexis/Lexis would feel it.
