I recall back in 1975, we were bringing my Aunt to L.A.International Airport to return to N.Y. (and home to New Windsor) from visiting us in Calif. Back in those days the terminals were wide open, you could walk anywhere, no security to speak of. As we were waiting for my Dad to come into the terminal from parking the car, suddenly Telly Savalas, dressed in full Kojak suit and hat, approaches my mother and aunt, takes their hands and starts talking to them, saying things like "how it is so wonderful to meet two such beautiful ladies," etc. etc., talking on and on in romantic tones while stroking their hands, one after the other... He was so straight-faced through the whole thing, never broke character... It was very funny - I thought for a moment my old Aunt Rae actually left her body, she was so entranced by him... Then one of his co-stars came over to drag him away back to the set, where they were filming nearby. I think it gave my Aunt Rae a head start on her flight home...
