 As you know, I spent many happy days in that downstairs kitchen, too. I especially loved Easter time when they baked the Easter bread with the whole colored eggs baked right into the top of the loaves! I never know how your mother and grandmother got the top of the bread so shiny, but now I know it was just brushed with beaten eggs and melted butter!
