Seems #1 ole WE thinks this is a funny story.
Lets return to 1945 or 1946(that is even before Arlene and Joe's wedding) it's a Sunday afternoon at The Palatine Hotel and the Romano family is celebrating something, there were only 4 of us then. Of course this was a very fancy place that this 5 yer old had never been before, most meals out were at Schoonmaker's Tea Room or Cy's Diner. When we were seated the waiter, served us ice water with a lemon wedge on the rim, and I preceded to squeeze the lemon into the water, put some sugar in the glass and stir, would else would you expect a little kid to do. Well my big brother thought this was funny, but it actualy became the idea behind the saying....when life gives you lemons make lemomade...enough said...
A funnier story...my parents were going to a party on a Sunday afternoon, the big guy was in Japan or some other far off land, so the parents thought it would be nice for me to take my sister to the Pine Tree Inn for Sunday dinner, I was 16 because I drove , so sister was 7. Dad gave me the cash for dinner, credit cards had not been invented, We had a very nice meal, Ruthann had Frogs Legs, she always did. When the bill came I paid with Dad's cash and left a $15.00 tip, he had not explained the 15% thing but I had observed him leave something for the waiter. Well when he got home and he asked for the change, I said I left it for the waiter....he hit the ceiling..appears I left double what the tip was to have been. Remember this was 1956 so the total for the two of us, we had no cocktails, was around $20.00, so $3.00 would have been a nice tip. Dad laughed later and I learned a very valuable lesson.
