Trip a worry for Azamour team

JOHN OXX on Monday acknowledged that Azamour will be stepping into the unknown when the brilliant Royal Ascot at York winner tries a mile and a half for the first time in his glittering career at Newbury on Saturday.
Oxx has the triple Group 1 winner fully primed for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes yet with Azamour stamina unproven beyond ten furlongs, the trip at which he won both the Prince of Wales Stakes last month and, last season, the Irish Champion Stakes.
With likely opponents set to include Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow, Prix de l arc de Triomphe victor Bago, the unbeaten Eswarah and surprise supplementary Policy Maker, all winners at 12 furlongs, Oxx sounded more hopeful than confident as he assessed the task ahead on Monday.
We hope Azamour will stay,Oxx said, but racing is littered with trainers and jockeys who believe a horse will stay and then being proved wrong?
He added: There will be some tough opposition out there. Grey Swallow looked good in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and is an Irish Derby winner - so he proven over the distance.
If Bago returns to his Arc form then he will take some beating, as will Yeats if he reproduces his Coronation Cup run. His stable companion Ace was not that far behind us at York and the filly (Eswarah) is an interesting runner. It is boiling up into a very hot race.?
Though the present good to firm ground would be aid his task, Azamour was on Monday eased to 9-4 favourite (from2s) by Ladbrokes to secure a second prestigious success inside a week for owner the Aga Khan, who landed the Darley Irish Oaks on Sunday with Shawanda.

Eswarah had worked well at the weekend and her trainer Michael Jarvis believes her to be more effective at a mile and a half than 10-furlongs over which the Nassau Stakes, her alternative objective, is run.
Speaking on Attheraces, Jarvis said on Monday: We have confirmed her entry and we will review the situation through the week. If we are happy with the filly, and Sheikh Hamdan thinks it is the right thing to do, she will run.
would advise punters to hold on until she is confirmed at the 48-hour stage or, if they want to have a bet, do so providing the filly runs. She is fine, though, and Richard Hills rode her in work on Saturday morning. She worked a mile on the watered gallop and was full of herself.
Everything she does she seems to do well within herself and she has got this tremendous burst of speed, which you dont see in many horses.?
Eswarah has won two of her startsat Newbury where clerk of the course Richard Osgood was watering to maintain the going at officially good to firm?
She will probably put water on daily to keep things as they are,?Osgood said.
The forecast is basically dry with temperatures lower than average until the end of the week when they should rise to 22-23 degrees.?/a>
