ALEXANDER GOLDRUN, due to run next in the Prix Vermeille, could yet be diverted to Leopardstown on Saturday week, when she has the choice of two glittering Group 1 prizes.

She is in both the £á1,000,000 Baileys Irish Champion Stakes and the £á250,000 Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes. The former is over ten furlongs and the Matron over a mile, and the four-year-old is top class at both distances.

Trainer Jim Bolger said on Sunday: "We are looking at three races with her, and we are looking a bit closer at the Matron now that Soviet Song has dropped out."

The much-travelled filly has already won two Group 1 races this year - the Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh and the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. She also finished second in last month's Falmouth Stakes and third in the Singapore Airlines International Cup in May. She began the season in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Nad Al Sheba, in which she finished sixth behind Elvstroem.

Bolger also has his Meld and Royal Whip Stakes winner Tropical Lady in the Matron, but said that she runs next in the Blandford Stakes at The Curragh on September 18, followed by the Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp.

Dermot Weld, who felt that the ground was too fast for Grey Swallow in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, in which he finished seventh to Azamour on Sunday reported last season's Irish Derby winner in good shape for Leopardstown.

He said: "He is in great order but his participation in the Irish Champion depends on the ground. If it's good he will definitely run."

Azamour, who is expected to start favourite for the Leopardstown race, pleased trainer John Oxx when Christophe Soumillon made a flying visit to ride the King George winner in a spin on The Curragh last Friday. Soumillon is to replace the injured Mick Kinane.
