My best friend growing up was a skater and a punk rock kid. He wore a mohawk and a feathered earring, listened to bands like depeche mode and the smiths before they was popular and got heckled up by all the football players. He was the first to teach me in the value about being myself.

He's coming to San Francisco next week with his wife and two kids. He lives on the East Coast, has a corporate middle management job, and keeps his hair short.

I was thinking about him today and how I used to feel like the straight man and he the wild one and now it feels switched. And then I think about my essence and his essence. And how we could go back to those two 14 year old boys playing basketball together and listening to the Beastie boys.

And then I started to appreciate my life. The richness of my relationships and the dynamic (okay sometimes crazy) rhythm of my days. Of the sex that I have. Of the people I'm meeting. And I felt this wave of appreciation and love of my life.

So, again, in a post, I say thank you to my community. I hope everyone can meet him. He is an amazing man.
