a discussion of pie options with the waitress. she says she is the pie guru and she recommends apple but i am drawn to peach.
she says in that case i should at least get it heated up.

oh yes, she says. especially baking.
i like to bake bread, i say.
me too, she says.
have you ever seen the tassajara bread book? i ask.
yes, she says, that's a good one. my father has it, that's how i learned.
that's how i learned too, i say. really!
ok, she says.it is a good book. it is clear and precise, it tells you exactly what to do.
yeah, i say, and it tells you when not to panic. that helped me a lot.
right, she says, i know what you mean.
by the way, where are we? i ask.

yes i saw it. it is beautiful.
i hate it here. i'm going to leave, she says.

i don't know. i just got out of high school. i want to be a forensic scientist.
wow, i say, that could be interesting. i went to see dissected cadavers with a friend who is in med school, it was fascinating.
oh yeah, i've done that, she says. nothing grosses me out except feet. intestines can fall out all over the place and i don't care but just a little foot injury makes me faint.
well everybody has their weaknesses.
well feet are mine.
maybe you can let your colleages handle the cases where people shoot themselves in the foot.

hmm.
she has to go back to work. i could definitely see her readin' it .. a book about sex as good in its way as the tassajara bread book.
