Subject: Finishing Purple Heart

I've read that purple heart is brown when cut, turns purple when exposed to air, and will revert to brown if exposed to sunlight. One reference book said it should be treated with a "UV inhibitor" and that lacquer is better than a mineral spirits based finish. What should be used as a "UV inhibitor"? I want to retain the purple color -- I can do brown at a much lower cost than buying purple heart.
