It's also amazingThat sometimes the same people who have lied to and hurt you feel genuine remorse for it later and want to come to you and apologize but are afraid to, or don't know how. They are afraid of rejection (rightfully).
They feel guilt, shame and sorrow that they ever behaved as they did.
I ruined a friendship 25 years ago through taking my friend for granted and by lying to her to impress her and by being flippant and mean-spirited. I am so sorry for it now, but I am too afraid to apologize to her because I couldn't bear it if she ignored me and rejected me, which I know I deserve. She would never believe that I've changed. Trust takes time. Oh, the lessons we learn in life.
