Subject: The Calling....

Those of you familiar with my work have read many of my poems that refer to the craving within...
this is the story of one of those characters.

The Kiss...

Resting up against a nearby tree in the park she closed her eyes remembering her time. The pleasure and pain mixed to make an aphrodisiac, literally, almost to die for. Her lip curled at the pun.

She hadn’t even realized he had bitten her until his teeth were already sunk into her shoulder. He had enticed then enthralled her so...The last thing she remembered was him nipping at her throat…it had started with a few drinks then talking and laughter. Next thing she knew his eyes had gone serious and heated. She had felt her body respond to that look. Had felt it clear through her system like a jolt of lightning. His soft caress along her skin had sent her senses running wild.

Unaware that he had unbuttoned her blouse til his lips brushed across her cleavage. Opening her eyes she stared up into his, the heat in his her undoing. She remembered him picking her up and carrying her up the stairs at his lips then tongue had wrecked havoc with her senses. All she could remember was the feel of his body along hers as he took her, demanding response til she was wild with need. A red haze behind her eyelids her only vision as her body burned out of control. That was when she had felt the nip along her neck, her shoulders. Causing her to cry out with abandon til his teeth had sunk in to brush along bone.

The split second of pain to her shoulder causing her to cry out anew. Pain and pleasure intermingled, taking her over the edge as she felt the caress of his tongue along the edge of his teeth. Even the blood that trailed down her shoulder to her chest had not the slightest dampening on her passion unleashed. When they were both spent she felt him release his bite on her shoulder.

I did not hurt you did I? He asked softly as he placed a kiss upon his mark.

No….I don’t think I have ever experienced anything like that before. Felt like I was totally out of control and it just fed the pleasure. She looked up hesitantly at him; sure that she would see revulsion in his eyes. Instead heat was what she saw. All she managed was a soft gasp as his lips devoured hers. She clung to him all at once dizzy, yet feeling her body burn once more out of control.

As she met up with her friend later she had forgotten about the marks he had left.

What happened to you! Her friend asked pulling her blouse back from her shoulder. Looking at the bruises that marked her friends flesh. Pulling her closer she touched her finger to the bruises…her fingers coming away with fresh blood. Are those bite marks? She asked.

Jerking away from her friend she grabbed a hankerchief from her knapsack. Putting pressure on the wound once more she replied. “We just got carried away”.…

The Beginning…

Slowly she noticed her tastes change, cravings for rare meat taking the place of her normal choices. Anemia showing frequently in her blood work the doctor ran.
At one point down the road she was nearly eating it raw. This became the norm with her from that point on. Not only satisfying the cravings but seeming to simmer down her anemia for a short time. Transfusions helped but she seemed to burn right through the blood in a matter of weeks. Between the two this seemed to worked out fine until someone bled around her. She found herself fascinated and unable to look away. Wanting to just take the blood upon her tongue. Frightened by these urges and what had been happening to her body she withdrew more and more from social circles. Preferring to avoid temptation whenever possible. This worked out great until she was doing her normal plasma donations down at the clinic. Being O positive had its uses. And for some reason when the blood was filtered back into her system, she also seemed to be able to avoid her cravings for a while.

The phlebotomist called her and asked if she was prepared to go back. Standing up and making her way toward her. Suddenly the doctor on duty called her back to the back offices unexpectedly. Walking up to the doctor she could smell sweat and excitement under the perfume the doctor was wearing. As she walked in and headed to a chair the doctor shut the door. Please have a seat there were some things that showed up in the last few samples were ran through lab, that we need to discuss. We have found an anomaly in your blood work. The past several times we have run it and it has all come back the same. Unfortunately we will be unable to use you as a donor from now on. However, we have had a private medical facility show interest in this anomaly and though we cannot take your plasma for use here they have shown interest to go so far as to offer to pay you if you are willing to send it in through this facility. Of course their request is for whole blood, not just the plasma.

Fighting hard not to show the panic she was feeling at this, she drew a deep breath. Plastering a smile upon her face, I don’t know…I will think upon it and get back to you. The doctor’s crestfallen expression let her know that she wasn’t the only one being paid for this kind offer. She got up and shook the doctor’s hand then picked up her purse and headed for the door. What the heck was in her blood that was of so much damn interest? Could this explain what had been going on? And was it worth going through god knew what to find out? Debating didn’t seem to get her anywhere so she headed back to her apartment. I’ll give myself a few weeks to think on it clearly before I make any decisions.

A week later while checking her mail there was a strange envelope from some medical facility mixed into her mail. Without thinking she opened it up and then leaned against the wall for support.

Dear Ms. James,
We are writing to you in regards per our request we ran through the local center you used to donate plasma. The doctor there informed us that you seemed not interested at this time. We are writing to again show interest in samples and request that you reconsider this offer. We are prepared to go so far as to fly you out to our facility here in Florida as well as offer you $100.00 per pint we use in our research. Please call or mail us immediately with a reply.

Sincerely,

Paul Davis, PhD
Head of research and development

After reading this she became worried. Thoughts flew through her mind frantically. How did they get my address and why did they jump to hunt me down so soon. The pay is so much? Why? Just what the heck is in my blood? Again fighting fear she took a deep breath. Well whatever the heck is going on. I am done with this. Looking back at the letter that had fallen to the floor she decided to ignore the situation and see what happened.

Two weeks later she received another letter in the post. This one read that though they were willing to pay for my flight, my stay in a nice hotel as well as again per pint. If necessary they were prepared to report it to the CDC if given no choice at which time I would be brought in whether I liked it or not. This was their last offer. Feeling the sinking feeling in her gut. She drew in a few good deep breaths. These people mean business. Her regular doctor had never mentioned anything like this what so ever in the past. Deciding safety was best she packed what few belongings she had and went down to her car. Placing her cat in the back seat she climbed in and pulled out her road map. She wasn’t hurting for money; between inheritance and investments she had plenty to live off of. Deciding precaution was best suited to this situation. She drove down to her bank and withdrew everything. Making it harder to track her down.
