Subject: Demetrius/MABVN

I hope I have the right site. I am a friend of Demetrius or MABVN...whatever. I was instructed to type and let you know that he is being prepped for surgery again. They will be removing two discs out of his neck at c4,c5 and c5, c6. they will then replace the discs with bone tissue from the bone bank and then a titanium plate will be attached with screws to the front of his neck on three vertebraete (hope i spelled that right) a total of 8 to 12 screws will be holding the plate and the verte. together in hopes that the vert. will fuse into one big bone. He has had 4 lower back surgery, discectomies at the L5 S1 level so this is different for him and he seems to me to be a little apprehensive...not really scared but this is all new territory and new odds, which really do not seem to be in his favor at the moment. 1 in 5000 that he could come out of this a quadroplegic with the surgery and 1 in 3000 without the surgery. their is the slight chance of never talking again nor playing again depending on how damaged the spinal column is. I have known him since the second grade and I am worried but I would never let him know that, and he won't know unless he can sit here at this computer himself and read it after the surgery. He talked ALOT about you people here and I know that a few years ago you helped him through some very rough times. I hope I am on the right board so if I am not please e mail me back here but I see there is only one Yolanda here and if it is the same Yolanda I must say you are gorgeous. if i am in the wrong place then he said Yolanda would know his addy and tell me if I were in the wrong place. if i am maybe you could direct me to where I need to be.
They will go through the front and if anyone knows MABVN the way I do then you know that if he can not play you might as well shoot him. I would just hate to see him paralyzed from this surgery. Any way he wanted me to tell you guys that it was fun and to say thanks to Yolanda for everything in case he doesn't make it through. If he does make it through then it will be six months of down time. 1 month hard aspen collar and no movement. 2 months of aspen collar and minimal movement and then a soft collar for the remaining time if all goes well. If the bones do not fuse then they will have to go back in through the rear of the neck and try again with more plates. if that doesn't work then he is screwed. So anyway if you know his e mail then if you want to say something to him then I will be printing it off and reading it to him...if everything goes well.
This last year and a half has not been very easy on him and now this comes up. So anyway I will update periodically as I can. His phone will be off for obvious reasons.

ps Stay out of the sun I guess.
