Subject: Thunderbird Sport (1999) Engine Cutting Out

I have just purchased a 1999 T/Bird Spoprt. What a great bike. However it has the unfortunate habit of cutting out whilst ticking over, when it does this it very often will not restart. First off I thought it was a clutch lever switch / stand switch /neutral switch fault, as it seemed that when these were operated the bike started pefect. However last night although I could get it to start after a few seconds it would cut and not re start and it seemed that if I used the first part of the choke ( the speed up tick over part) it started O.K. Also the engine seems to need to tickover at at least 1100 rpm to run smooth.

Being new to Triumph & 3cyl engines in particular I am a bit short on ideas. Can anyone advise, is this a common fault?
The bike is still under warranty but its not a Triumph dealer.
