My son suffered a hole in his skull, one side of his face burned, two fractures of his back spinal column, and one in his neck, a three centimeter triangle tear in his neck with severe nerves and veins, fractured ribs, and more. My son so complained about going home that the hospital doctors put him through some tests to check to see if he could go home. He is home. His wife's employer gave her three weeks off with pay to tend to Tim. My son has a new attitude towards life now. I sense his war with the world, which mostly a war in his own mind, has about ended. My son related to my medical condition much. My son liked hearing from me that that I said good was going to come from this… good other than the assured favorable outcome lawsuit. We talked on the phone for about 40 minutes yesterday… my son commented, "Ten days ago, if someone said be grateful for being able to hold my thing to pee, I would have told them they were crazy. Today, I got out of bed on my own and was able to use the john myself. I was quite happy with me for being able to do so."

My son was flown by helicopter to a Las Vegas hospital: bill: $18,000. Offender's insurance company picks that up. Tim so heard me as I told him often that his only job at the moment is to get well, do what the docs say, don't worry about bills, dwell on the outcome of the lawsuit, etc… just get well.

Sometimes, wake up calls can be very painful and expensive.

I talk with my son since I wrote the above. He is just now becoming aware of the areas of his body that he cannot feel sensation. I can only imagine how he must feel even with my own horrible surgeries and medical condition giving me some true empathy. I am somewhat mixed up on hearing whether he is paralyzed. I am sure he is at least partially paralyzed. The above telling of his success in going to the john, I can picture my son the fighter dragging himself to the john on crutches or something. I can say that although, my body has never been so maimed as is now, my emotional/spirituality has never been better. I so hope my son arrives at this. Now, he sounds a bit like that but we will have to wait for him to go through the grieving process to know for sure.
