Subject: It's official now!...

I read in a short story or something… that some northern indians would leave their elderly who became too much of a burden as the Indians migrated, sitting at a fire with a blanket and abandon them to the wolves.

When I was fifty, in weightlifting I was up to bench pressing 200 pounds. When I was 38, I was carrying near 300 pound rolls of linoleum down a flight of stairs. When I was around 28, I was delivering refrigerators and other appliances up flights of stairs by myself.

Well… today… I asked for help with carrying a heavy object… feed me to the wolves!. I had just got back from only riding 16-1/2 hilly miles and walking 3 hilly miles at the park. I have early degenerative arthritis of the small of my back, the neck area, and in the hips, along with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Walking traumatizes my small of my back more than riding my bike. Today’s park workout was a light one sorta, because I went after hydration infusion later in the morning when it is windier and it was very windy this morning. Tomorrow early morning with calmer winds, I want to ride 4 trips around the lake for 33 hilly miles. I had to choose… be macho, carry the window air conditioner weighing near 180 pounds down to storage, strain the small of my back and then not be able to go to the park in the a.m. or ask for help.

I guess I got a sense of humor about this, but dang! This really sucks. I don’t like asking for help! It sucks! This is the first time in thinking getting old really sucks!

I need to call rent a body, or trade a body, or something!

It official… I am old!

Acceptance, hun? Pooh… that sucks too.

RICHARD
